With such a long history, it is inevitable that band members will come and go to explore new opportunities.  There are however, a few band members who left us and this earth far too early and their musical talent, warmth and energy are sincerely missed by the members and fans of Memphis Train Revue.

            Laquetta Phillips

            (1965-2005)

A native of Jasper, Texas, Laquetta was one of the original singers of Memphis Train Revue. Her singing talents were honed at church and school where she was an active participant in many choirs, special groups, contests, and musicals during her formative years.

In 1983 her journey brought her to Austin and the University of Texas where she received formal vocal training while pursuing Radio-Television-Film. While at the university she was a member of the campus gospel choir and, after college, she became a member of Claudia Williams and the Voices of Christ where she gained her first recording experience.

Laquetta decided to broaden her scope by joining Memphis Train Revue, what was then “Black Coffee.” Through Memphis Train Revue she endeared herself to countless music fans and musicians throughout Texas and across the country.  Laquetta’s voice was as spectacular as it was beautiful: a rare, compelling talent that will never be duplicated, but, like Laquetta herself, will be deeply missed.
